'This Is The states': Go Inside the Song That Bankrupt All of Our Hearts (Sectional Video)

Episode director John Requa jokingly asked for "the greatest song of all time"

The well-nigh emotional episode of "This Is Us" was anchored by 2 different performances of a new original vocal written for the show, called "We Can Always Come Dorsum to This."

In this exclusive behind the scenes clip (above), series composer Siddhartha Khosla delves into the writing of the song, which was inspired by series creator Dan Fogelman'southward script for the episode, "Memphis."

On the show, "We Can Ever Come up Back to This" is a piece of music written by a young William (Jermel Nakia) for the band he's in with his cousin Ricky (Brian Tyree Henry), who sings it live on stage.

"My direction from Dan and from [directors] John [Requa] and Glenn [Ficarra] was to write a Motown tune," Khosla said. "I asked, do you have whatever direction? And John jokingly said, 'Just write the greatest song of all time.'"

Subsequently being performed as part of the storyline on the evidence, a second version of the vocal, sung by Hannah Miller, plays over the closing scenes of the episode.

Both versions are now bachelor as singles.

"This Is U.s.a." airs Tuesdays at 9 p.one thousand. ET on NBC.
